A family has been left in deep sorrow after their pet dog suddenly turned on their little daughter and ripped her to death.
The dog and the murdered little girl
Layla Tsuda, a really heartbroken mum has spoken of the harrowing moment her six-month-old baby was mauled to death by the family dog.
The little girl, Kamiko Dao Tsuda-Saelee, was playing in her walker at her family home in Las Vegas when the pitbull sunk its teeth into the tot.
According to Daily Star UK, her mother, Layla Tsuda, left the pair alone while she briefly nipped to the toilet. Moments later she returned to find the dog, named Mana, was savaging her baby girl.
Tsuda managed to stop the attack, but tragically the baby had already suffered major injuries, according to KTNV.
She was rushed to hospital with blunt force trauma to the head but could not be saved.
In a statement devastated Tsuda told KHON-TV: “I have no words to explain my pain.”
She said the family was blindsided by the attack as the pooch, who had been in the family for nine years, had never bitten anyone.
She described the Mana as a good family pet. The dog was put down by Clark County Animal Control a few hours after the attack.
Officials said: “The owner surrendered the dog to the County... A dog that has attacked and killed a person would not be allowed to be adopted.”
Police said no charges were expected to be brought against the family as it was a tragic accident.
Larry Hadfield, a Las Vegas police officer, said: “It's an absolute true tragedy.
"Regardless of how trusting you are of animals you have to make sure you are supervising.
“You have a family that's going to be grieving for today and the rest of their lives."
The family have set up a GoFundMe page to pay for the baby’s funeral and medical bills.
On Facebook one relative wrote: “When one of us hurt, we all hurt... It's never easy losing a loved one especially a child.
“The loss of you is felt all the way here in Hawaii. Rest in Jesus little Angel.”
