Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali may be dead but his memories and heroic deeds will forever linger in our hearts as a force that restored the territorial integrity of Nigeria against the Boko Haram sect.

Late lieutenant colonel, Muhammad Abu Ali

On November 4, 2016, when Boko Haram gunned down Muhammad Abu Ali, a lieutenant-colonel and commanding officer of the 272 Task Force Tank Battalion at Mallam Fatori, Borno State, the insurgents must have thought they were eliminating a bitter enemy, a man who had handed them heavy defeats each time they came up against him.

They must have thought they were wasting him and punishing his wife and three children. It was mission unaccomplished because, unfortunately for them, Ali was more than a Boko Haram nemesis.

He was more than a family man. Lieutenant-Colonel Muhammadu Abu Ali was a unique officer, uncommon leader, patriotic Nigerian, fine gentleman, level-headed fighter and national hero. By killing him, Boko Haram has only elevated him to martyrdom.

These are photos shared by close associates of the valiant soldier to celebrate his transition to eternal greatness rather than mourn his death. Abu Ali paid the supreme price of protecting the dignity and safety of Nigerians with his life.
