The police have sealed off the Sharks Stadium, venue of the Peoples Democratic Party convention, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Speaking during a programme on Channels Television titled, ‘Sunrise Daily’, the Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer, Donald Awunah from the Force headquarters has dsiclosed that it has sealed off the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt, the venue of the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party.

According to a report by Punch Newspaper, the police spokesman said that due to the tension surrounding the convention and the conflicting court rulings, the police thought it best to seal off the venue.

“The warring parties need to follow due process to end their crisis through the courts and as a law enforcement agency what do you do? You ensure that there is a superior court order. It is not about taking sides.

“If in the next one hour or two, we get another court order, we will take action. We are there for every Nigerian but when you are the first responder, you have to take action, you have to be proactive,” he said.

It was reported online and social media earlier today that some policemen stormed the venue of the convention around 4:00am on Wednesday.

Confirming the new development, The Peoples Democratic Party's direction of new media, Deji Adeyanju, took to his social media to blast the President Buhari-led federal government and the opposition party for being responsible.

"Cannot believe that the @PdpNigeria crisis has taken a new dimension. President BUHARI orders Military/Police to block Convention venue.

"Interesting. The desperation to crush @PdpNigeria by the Federal Government is laughable.

"I can confirm to Nigerians that the @APCNigeria led Federal Government have blocked all roads leading to our convention venue in PH.

"The @APCNigeria Federal Government should leave us to handle our internal party issues instead of now jumping in the ring. SMH," Deji said.
