A man is being made to pay for his acts of theft after he was found out to have stolen palm oil.
Afeez Ismaila, a 25-year-old man, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment.
The man was sentenced by an Ifetedo Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Tuesday for stealing 25 kegs of palm oil worth N125,000.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Magistrate, Mrs Dorcas Ajiboye, who sentenced Ismaila after he pleaded guilty did not give him an option of fine.
Ajiboye said that the punishment would serve as deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar acts.
Prosecutor James Obaletan told the court that Marcus Odetade of Ogbon-Ori, Ifetedo in Osun, lodged a report against Ismaila on July 17.
Obaletan said that the accused trespassed into complainant’s house on July 3 and stole 25 kegs of palm oil.
He said each keg contained 25 litres of the product and that they were all valued N125,000.
Obaletan also said that Ismaila, who was later arrested, confessed stealing 15 kegs during police investigation.
He said Ismaila told the police that three out of the 15 kegs busted on the way and that he sold 12 kegs for N60,000.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 390 (9) and 412 of the Penal Code.
