The site attracted thousands after it was believed by many to contain the footprint of Prophet Mohammad and holy water.

The Kano Hisbah Board has revealed why it demolished a “healing water” site in Hotoron Arewa, Kano metropolis.

According to the agency, it demolished the site due to mass gatherings and unverified spiritual claims.

The site, believed by many to contain the footprint of Prophet Mohammad and holy water, attracted thousands seeking spiritual healing and blessings.

In viral videos, residents, some chanting prayers, were seen scooping the muddy water into bottles, splashing it on themselves, or drinking it with their hands.

The board’s Director-General, Dr. Abba Sufi, confirmed the demolition, stating that the site was being used to mislead desperate patients and exploit the vulnerable.

He urged residents and visitors to disregard claims about the site’s sanctity or healing powers, saying it had become a platform for exploitation and fraud.

“The place was demolished on Monday after we discovered that some disgruntled elements are using the place to mislead desperate patients seeking treatment,” he said.
