Abdullahi Kasolayo, a suspect, from the Oko Olowo area of Ilorin, has been arraigned before a magistrate court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle while prayers were ongoing.
Kasolayo, a 36-year-old bricklayer, was arraigned for criminal trespass, mischief and theft, contrary to Sections 342, 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The matter was reported at the anti-kidnapping squad, police headquarters, Ilorin by one Salman Tunde that his Bajaj motorcycle with engine number: DUZWEH57763 parked in front of his house was stolen when he went to mosque for prayer.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the motorcycle was stolen before he came back from the mosque.
“All efforts to trace the motorcycle proved abortive until the following day, March 27, 2025 at about 0700hrs when he was called by one Taofeeq that he saw it beside the road at Oko-Olowo area.
“The suspect later confessed during interrogation to have stolen the motorcycle and that he was knocked down by a moving vehicle while trying to escape with it before a good Samaritan took him to the hospital for treatment,” the sheet added.
The case was prosecuted by Adebayo Thomas while Barrister Toyin Onaolapo defended the suspect.
In his ruling, Magistrate N.T Ahmed granted the suspect bail to enable him treat, “The serious wounds on his head with two surgeries done on it already.’’
The case was adjourned to May 7, 2025.
