LASUSTECH Fires Three Lecturers Over S3xual Harassment

Their dismissal followed a thorough investigation and subsequent deliberations by the institution’s Governing Council.

Three academic staff of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, LASUSTECH, have been dismissed by the institution over confirmed cases of s3xual harassment.

Those affected include Nurudeen Hassan of the Mass Communication Department, Kareem Arigbabu and Olayinka Uthman from the Department of Arts and Design.

Their dismissal followed a thorough investigation and subsequent deliberations by the institution’s Governing Council.

The action was taken in line with Section 5.5.2(v) of the University’s Senior Staff Conditions of Service, as stated in an internal memo titled “Dismissal of Staff Members Due to S3xual Harassment Allegations.”

“The Governing Council of Lagos State University of Science and Technology, LASUSTECH, has taken decisive action in response to allegations of sexual harassment involving three staff members. After a thorough investigation and deliberation, the council has approved the dismissal.

“This decision, which is effective immediately, is in accordance with Section 5.5.2(v) of the University Senior Staff Conditions of Service,
” the memo reads.

The university reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on s3xual misconduct and reiterated its commitment to fostering a safe and respectful academic environment.

“The university takes allegations of sexual harassment seriously, as they compromise the institution’s image and disrupt the academic environment. The Governing Council’s decision reflects the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful campus community,” the memo adds.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Kuye, confirmed the dismissal in a chat, saying it was decided by the institution disciplinary committee.

“It is true, the three of them were dismissed. The Governing Council followed all procedures. We gave them queries before they were dismissed,” he said.
