The statement signed by Comrade Uchenna Madu, Leader of MASSOB, described Nwosu as the pillar of democracy the politicians were enjoying today.

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB has slammed the Nigerian Senate.

MASSOB accused the Senate President Godswill Akpabio-led 10th Senate of “systematic gang up in denying the well deserved immortalization of Late Professor Humphrey Nwosu”.

MASSOB in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday said Nwosu was denied the right because he is an Igbo man.

The statement signed by Comrade Uchenna Madu, Leader of MASSOB, described Nwosu as the pillar of democracy the politicians were enjoying today.

“He is maker of Chief MKO Abiola’s honour as being celebrated because without the sacrifice, persecution, threatening of his life and honesty of Late Professor Humphrey Nwosu in 1993, there will be no famous June 12, democracy day, there will be no celebration of MKO Abiola,” MASSOB said.

The group saluted the eloquent and boldness of South east senators led by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and some other non Igbo senators for their unshakable submissions in favour of Nwosu.

“Late Professor Humphrey Nwosu is a very important person in the history of Nigeria because he was brave in discharging his electoral duties as National Electoral Commission (NEC) chairman.

“In 1993, he organized a big election, the most adjudged freest and fair electoral exercise in Nigeria. He wanted everyone to have a fair chance to vote and to be heard.

“But this was not easy for him because some powerful influential persons and the military cabals led by Rtd General Ibrahim Babangida, ex-president of Nigeria didn’t want a positive change because their perceived enemy, Chief MKO Abiola was about to be announced the rightful winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election.

“Babangida, his military cabals and some criminal politicians quickly went to court and brought judgement that annulled the presidential election.

“They were mean to him. Even though Late Professor Humphrey Nwosu faced a lot of trouble and danger, he stayed strong and kept trying to make things better. His sacrifice means that he gave up his safety and comfort to help the Nigerian people have a voice.

“Late Professor Humphrey Nwosu’s unbiased work and committed sacrifice helped many people in Nigeria to have the freedom to express themselves in electoral exercises and choices,” the group further stated.

MASSOB insisted that Nwosu remained the unsung hero of Nigeria democracy.

“He is the actual pillar of democratic principles that formed the basic foundation of Nigeria democracy.

“He showed the people of Nigeria the ability to be brave and stand up for what is right, even when it is hard,” MASSOB stated, and advised the South-East governors “to commence the processes of immortalizing Nwosu in their respective states.

“He is an Igbo legacy that must be preserved.”
