Shittu advised Kwankwaso to carefully assess potential alliances, questioning the credibility of the proposed candidate.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been warned against rushing into a merger ahead of the 2027 election.

A prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Asiwaju Moshood Shittu, gave the advice to the national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwas.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja over the weekend, Shittu, a former director-general (North) of the Kwankwaso Presidential Campaign Council, warned that any rushed merger without a clear agenda or credible presidential candidate could be a “marriage of inconvenience.”

He likened it to the 2014 merger that led to the ousting of President Goodluck Jonathan, arguing that it resulted in a worse leadership outcome.

Shittu advised Kwankwaso to carefully assess potential alliances, questioning the credibility of the proposed candidate, the merger’s agenda, and its governance blueprint.

He emphasized that most opposition coalitions in Nigeria fail due to a lack of ideological coherence and vision.

Urging Kwankwaso to prioritize the Nigerian people over political calculations, Shittu warned that history would judge any ill-advised decision harshly.

He concluded that Nigeria “cannot afford another gamble” in its leadership.
