He added that all duly elected chairmen under the PDP remain loyal to the party.

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has debunked claims that 17 of its 18 local government chairmen have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The party labeled the reports as a fabrication designed to mislead the public.

Chris Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, made this statement on Thursday in Benin City.

He dismissed the alleged defections as a staged event, stating, “What happened in the festival hall of Edo State Government House can at best be described as content creation for the viewing pleasure of the general public.”

According to Nehikhare, the individuals paraded as defectors were not elected chairmen but “illegal appointees whom they are trying to impose on the various local government areas.”

He added that all duly elected chairmen under the PDP remain loyal to the party.

The controversy erupted after a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Fred Itua, claimed that 17 PDP local government chairmen had joined the APC.

The statement also quoted the governor as predicting a landslide victory for President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Nehikhare, however, accused the APC of fabricating political victories, warning that “whoever they are trying to deceive or impress should be wary, as there have been no political gains as was incorrectly portrayed.”
