Sowore was arraigned by the police for describing the Inspector General, Kayode Egbetokun as an illegal IGP.

The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has kicked against the bail application filed by activist Omoyele Sowore at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court.

According to the police, if granted bail, Sowore would run away during his trial.

The police stated this before the Justice Musa Liman-led court.

Earlier, Justice Liman had stood down the cybercrime suit preferred against Sowore by the Inspector General of Police till 3 pm.

The judge stood down the matter following an oral application for bail by Sowore’s lawyer, Abubakar Marshall.

But, the police prosecution team argued that Sowore should not be granted bail.

A police officer at the Force Intelligence Department, Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, FCT, Fred Ameh, in his deposition to the court, said, “That I verily believed owing to the antecedent of the Defendant/Applicant, the nature of the offences he is standing trial for, he would not be willing to stand for his trial if granted bail.

“That I know as a fact that the Defendant/ Applicant if granted bail will influence; interfere with, intimidate witnesses have cronies, and tentacles in overseas and groups in Nigeria that he is collaborating with.”
