Troops Intercept Arms Shipment From Niger Republic Intended for Zamfara Terrorists (Photo)

The interception occurred along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road, where the suspects attempted to evade capture by diverting their vehicle into the bush.

 
A shipment of weapons allegedly intended for terrorist groups in Zamfara State have been intercepted.
 
The weapons from Niger Republic was intercepted by troops of the 1 Brigade, under Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with the Department of State Services, DSS.
 
The operation, conducted between January 26 and 27, was based on credible intelligence concerning suspected arms dealers operating from Niger Republic. Acting on this information, the troops launched a covert mission to track the suspects.
 
The interception occurred along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road, where the suspects attempted to evade capture by diverting their vehicle into the bush.
 
Following a brief engagement with the troops, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled.
 
A search of the vehicle revealed a cache of weapons, including two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.
 
While the suspects remain at large, security forces are intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend them.
 
Counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama shared details of the incident on his verified X account, stating ongoing efforts to disrupt arms trafficking operations in the region.
