Obasa was replaced by Mojisola Meranda, the former deputy speaker, who has presided over two sittings since Obasa’s removal, with the former speaker absent from the sittings.

Supporters of the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, gathered at the Speaker’s Lodge on Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday morning.

The PUNCH reports that the supporters, wearing several pro-Obasa vests and caps are currently in their scores at the lodge in the area.

Multiple sources told The PUNCH that the supporters were planning a “heroic welcome” for the lawmaker who was recently impeached by a majority of lawmakers in the House.

Obasa was replaced by Mojisola Meranda, the former deputy speaker, who has presided over two sittings since Obasa’s removal, with the former speaker absent from the sittings.

The former Speaker was not in the country when he was impeached.

There is controversy over the choice of the Speaker’s Lodge at 47, Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, as Obasa’s purported arrival point, given that he is no longer officially entitled to the residence.

“I didn’t expect that the lodge would be opened for them”,
a resident was heard saying.

Our correspondent who is currently on the ground and monitoring the development reports that armed security personnel, including the police, are presently in the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

As of the time of filing this report, Obasa is yet to be sighted.
