These incidents, described as “unfortunate” by Commissioner of Police Bello Sani, have prompted calls for community members to seek peaceful conflict resolution instead of resorting to violence.

Two suspects have been arrested by the Kebbi State Police Command in connection with separate murder cases in the Shanga and Zuru Local Government Areas.

These incidents, described as “unfortunate” by Commissioner of Police Bello Sani, have prompted calls for community members to seek peaceful conflict resolution instead of resorting to violence.

A statement made available to newsmen on Friday by the spokesman for the command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said, “On December 31, 2024, at approximately 8:00 PM, police arrested Yunusa Haruna, 25, from Bakin Turu village in Shanga LGA, for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death.

“According to police reports, the suspect attacked his brother with a sharp knife during an altercation, leading to the victim’s death. The arrest followed a swift response from officers at the Shanga Divisional Police Headquarters.

“In another incident on January 8, 2025, at about 4:30 PM, Abubakar Umar, 25, of Jarkasa in Zuru LGA, reportedly stabbed Mohammed Bala in the head with a knife during a disagreement, killing him instantly.

“Umar is also accused of injuring Mohammed’s younger brother, Sama’ila Bala, during the altercation. Officers from the Zuru Divisional Police Headquarters promptly apprehended the suspect following the incident.”

Reacting to these events, Sani expressed deep concern and condemned the acts of violence. He urged residents of Kebbi State to report grievances to relevant authorities for resolution rather than resorting to self-help.

The Commissioner has tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) with conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding both cases. The suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Kebbi State Police Command further reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order while urging the public to cooperate by providing credible information to aid security efforts.
