UNILAG Mass Comm Department Produces All-Female First-Class Graduates

The achievement was announced during the 55th Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, where a total of 16,590 students were conferred with first degrees and diplomas over the three-day event.

The Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos (UNILAG) has made history by producing 18 all-female first-class graduates for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The achievement was announced during the 55th Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, where a total of 16,590 students were conferred with first degrees and diplomas over the three-day event.

Out of this figure, 9,865 students received first degrees and diplomas, while 6,659 were awarded postgraduate degrees. Additionally, 66 students graduated from the UNILAG Business School (ULBS).

The 18 outstanding first-class graduates include Feranmi Abiola, Ahuruele Akani, Oyindamola Arikawe, Ifedayo Ayilaran, Demiladeogo Bankole, Olaide Bankole, Eniola Daramola, Faith Enang, Temiloluwa Igbinlade, Joy Imanah, Ifeoma Iwelunmor, Chelsea Jegede, Opeyemi Kareem, Eunice Obidi, Frances Odogu, Mofesola Olanrewaju, Funmilola Onabanjo, and Peace Onuoha.

The university commended the students for their exceptional academic achievements, emphasizing their hard work, dedication, and resilience.

Reflecting on their journeys, some of the graduates shared personal experiences. Peace Onuoha revealed that she initially aspired to study law but motivated herself to excel in Mass Communication, balancing multiple jobs and internships.

Temiloluwa Igbinlade highlighted the challenges she faced transitioning from secondary school to university while juggling other commitments, crediting her faith and determination for her success.

Eunice Obidi attributed her success to discipline, effective time management, and the ability to prioritize academic excellence. Other academic highlights from the convocation included Christian Uwagwu, who emerged as the best-graduating student from the Faculty of Education with a CGPA of 4.78, and Ibrahim Sefiu, the best-graduating student from the Faculty of Social Sciences with a CGPA of 4.82.

In her remarks, UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Folasade Ogunsola, praised the university's groundbreaking accomplishments in infrastructure, innovation, and academic excellence. She noted the establishment of the MED-AFRICA GMP Laboratory, the first of its kind in West Africa, which is facilitating advanced HIV prevention research within the Faculty of Pharmacy.
