Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred on Christmas day when the shop owner, Mohammed Usman Baba, used the gas cylinder for a customer and then placed it to be charged.
A gas cylinder explosion at a vulcanizer shop in Kpakungun, a suburb of Minna, has claimed the life of a man called Zakari Aliyu and left two others, Mohammed Usman Baba and Umar Mohammed, injured.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred on Christmas day when the shop owner, Mohammed Usman Baba, used the gas cylinder for a customer and then placed it to be charged.
It was gathered that the cylinder grew hot, and the deceased, who was an apprentice of Mohammed, fetched water to pour on it, a usual practice when the cylinder gets hot.
“As Zakari poured the water on the cylinder, it blew up and scattered his body. The boss and his son also got injured in the event,” one of the eyewitnesses, Faisal Avuya, told The Nation.
The Nation gathered that the second injured victim, Umar Mohammed, who is the son of the shop owner, would require surgery due to serious injuries to his stomach.
