In a tweet, he emphasized that he has always supported and encouraged the women in the industry, and his comments were instead directed at his male colleagues who fail to reciprocate support.

Nigerian comedian, actor and movie producer, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY has addressed insinuations that he was shading his female colleagues in his recent post.

The controversy began when AY Makun expressed his disappointment and frustration over the lack of support from his male colleagues in promoting his latest movie, ‘The Waiter’.

His comments sparked a heated debate online, with some speculating that he was indirectly criticizing the achievements of Nollywood actresses.

However, AY Makun has since clarified his stance, stating that his post was not intended to belittle or undermine the success of his female counterparts.

In a tweet, he emphasized that he has always supported and encouraged the women in the industry, and his comments were instead directed at his male colleagues who fail to reciprocate support.

AY Makun’s frustration stems from the fact that some male actors, who are paid to participate in movie projects, often abandon the sets and instead promote other films. He questioned the integrity of such actions, especially when contracts have been signed.

AY Makun reiterated that his intention was not to diminish the accomplishments of Nollywood’s female talents, but rather to highlight the importance of male colleagues supporting one another.

His tweet reads, “And i repeat, ‘WEY TIN MAN DO MAN?’ Begging your fellow male actors to join you in promoting your film shouldn’t be a big deal. Especially when i have always been doing the same for everyone. Do you know how frustrating it is to pay actors who end up promoting other films and abandoning the one that they are in… EVEN with signed contracts?”

”My last tweet has nothing to do with the hardworking women who are winning in the industry as they all have my direct support and encouragement to date. MEN SHOULD ALSO SUPPORT MEN.”
