It was gathered that no fewer than thirty-two children reportedly lost their lives as a result of the stampede that occurred in Ibadan yesterday.
Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, has advised the Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Engineer Seyi Makinde, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stampede that occurred in Ibadan on Wednesday.
The lawmaker, who represents the Oyo South Senatorial District, made this declaration via a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday.
It was gathered that no fewer than thirty-two children reportedly lost their lives as a result of the stampede that occurred in Ibadan yesterday.
The incident took place at a children’s carnival organized by Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
Daily Post reports that the incident occurred at Islamic High School, Bashorun, in Ibadan.
In his reaction, Alli described the incident as unfortunate.
The lawmaker, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in the incident.
Alli, speaking further, urged the state government to investigate the matter without delay.
He advised the state government to take necessary action against anyone found guilty of causing the unfortunate loss of lives.
“I also wish the injured a quick recovery.
“I urge relevant authorities to provide adequate medical attention to all affected.
“I urge the Oyo State Government to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragedy and take necessary actions against negligence.”
