Pro-democracy group, the Take It Back (TIB) Movement has again condemned the illegal arrest of activist and nurse, Olamide Abiodun Thomas, by the Nigeria Police force for criticising the excesses of the police personnel.

Demanding her immediate and unconditional release, the TIB in an official statement on Friday which was signed by its Spokesperson, Olabiyi Ade Stephen, stated that the female activist's abduction was a clear case of intimidation and harassment, which is aimed at silencing her and suppressing the truth.

"We are alarmed and outraged by the abduction of Nurse Olamide Abiodun Thomas by men of the Nigeria Police Force,"
the TIB said.

"Her only offence was speaking truth to power, exposing the shenanigans, injustice, and fraudulent activities she witnessed in a Police Station."

As a law-abiding citizen, the group noted that Nurse Thomas only exercised her fundamental right to freedom of expression as enshrined in Section 39 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which states,

"Every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference."

The statement partly read: "We condemn the Nigeria Police Force's blatant disregard for the Constitution and the fundamental human rights of Nurse Thomas. We demand her immediate and unconditional release.

"We call on the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, to take immediate action to secure Nurse Thomas's release and ensure that her rights are respected.

"The Nigeria Police Force must respect the Constitution and protect the rights of all citizens, including Nurse Thomas. Her abduction is a clear case of intimidation and harassment, aimed at silencing her and suppressing the truth."

The group vowed that it will continue to monitor the situation and demand justice for Nurse Thomas.

SaharaReporters reported earlier that policemen arrested the activist in the early hours of Friday in her house in Lagos.
