Speaker Abbas Declares Edo Deputy Governor, Idahosa’s Reps Seat Vacant

The development followed Idahosa’s election as deputy governor during the governorship election held on September 21, 2024.

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has announced that the seat of Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, is now vacant.

The development followed Idahosa’s election as deputy governor during the governorship election held on September 21, 2024.

Idahosa, who previously represented Ovia Federal constituency in the House, was inaugurated as deputy governor on November 12, 2024.

In a letter read on the floor of the House, House Leader Julius Ihonvbere requested that the lawmakers declare the seat vacant to initiate the process of electing a replacement to represent the people of Ovia.

With this declaration, there are now four vacant seats in the House.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is expected to organize fresh elections to fill the vacant positions.
