Over ₦1 billion has been approved by the Anambra State Executive Council for the installation of solar-powered street lights across Awka Metropolis.
Contracts for the project were awarded to three companies:
VIGEO-DOME LTD: ₦460.7 million for a three-month project. FRANKTORCH NIG LTD: ₦385.6 million for 346 solar street lights, to be delivered in two months.
Conifer Konstruction Nig Ltd: ₦200 million for producing and installing 500 fluorescent “Solution Is Here” concrete signage to brand key infrastructure.
Additionally, the Council approved the rehabilitation of the vandalized substation at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus.
The ₦228.1 million contract was awarded to Kohl Ventures.
In support of local commerce, Crystal Dove Construction Company will construct 151 open stalls at Afuzo Market, Isuofia, Aguata LGA.
The health sector also received a boost with approval for the supply and installation of medical equipment at Specialist Hospital, Onitsha, and General Hospital, Anaku. CHRISLAUG LTD will execute the project.
Other contracts include: Road-marking of Amawbia flyover motorway and adjoining roads, awarded to Allpee International Ltd for ₦118.7 million, with a six-week completion timeline.
The Council also approved tax exemptions for businesses with capital below ₦100,000 and delegated sanitation powers to local governments.
Investors were encouraged to manage public enterprises through leasing or concession, seen as more effective than government control.
The state reminded residents of its anti-touting laws and urged compliance, highlighting empowerment schemes under Governor Soludo’s administration.
The meeting concluded with a prayer for the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the 10th National Assembly.
