Governor Uzodinma Approves New Minimum Wage For Imo Workers

This decision followed the submission of a report by the implementation committee.

 
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has approved a new minimum wage for workers in the state.
 
He approved N70,000 as the new minimum wage.
 
Uzodinma also announced the commencement of gratuity payments for retirees, revealing that 4,529 retirees at the local government level and 6,427 at the state level are owed gratuities dating back to 2006.
 
This decision followed the submission of a report by the implementation committee, which included representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Joint Union Negotiating Council, and the state government, after a two-day intensive meeting.
 
Addressing the committee, Governor Uzodimma said, “All the unions operating in the State had agreed on the minimum wage and in addition, that those on consolidated salaries who are already on ₦70,000 minimum wage will get additional 10 percent on top of their salaries.”
 
He stated that effective Tuesday (26/11/2024), his government will “resume gratuity payment of 2,962 retirees at the Local Government level and 2,742 at the State level, with the outstanding balance of 1,567 ( Local Government Area retirees ) and 2,685 ( State retirees) to be paid in the next one or two batches.”
 
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving the well-being of Imo workers and ensuring that pensioners, who devoted their youthful years to serving the state, are duly compensated.
 
In his remarks, Comrade Uche Chigemezu Nwaigwe, Chairman of the Imo State Council of the NLC, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his generosity toward the workers of Imo State.
 
Similarly, the TUC Chairman, Comrade Uchenna Ibe Great, pledged that workers would respond to the Governor’s goodwill with increased dedication and productivity in their duties.
