The Adamawa NSCDC Command said in a statement on Tuesday that the operation leading to the arrest was carried out in Hong, a town and local government area in northern Adamawa.

Fourteen herdsmen have been arrested by the Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and will be charged for allegedly violating an order of the state government banning the movement of cattle across unauthorised paths.

The Adamawa NSCDC Command said in a statement on Tuesday that the operation leading to the arrest was carried out in Hong, a town and local government area in northern Adamawa.

The Command noted that the success of the operation demonstrated the Corps’ commitment to enforcing the directives of the state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.

“The Executive Order was issued to safeguard public safety and security and to prevent farmer-herder clashes that often result from unauthorized movements,” the NSCDC stated.

According to the statement which was signed by the state NSCDC spokesman, Nyako Baba, “During a preliminary investigation, it was revealed that some of the arrested individuals are not indigenous to Adamawa State.”

The statement said this fact further emphasizes the importance of enforcing the ban to prevent external disruptions to the state’s peace and stability.

“Investigations are still ongoing, and upon conclusion, the suspects will be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction,
” the NSCDC assured.

The Command said the arrest and likely prosecution should serve as a warning to individuals or groups contemplating similar violations.

“The NSCDC is resolute in its mission to uphold the law and will continue working tirelessly to ensure compliance with the Executive Order,” the statement added.
