This tension escalated after a survivor of Friday’s bandit raid claimed to have recognized some of the attackers as local Fulani individuals.

Six persons were killed while several others sustained varying injuries on Sunday evening, as youths in Mera, Augie Local Government Area, Kebbi State, attacked Fulani residents.

According to SaharaReporters, the attack stemmed from accusations that some Fulani community members were involved in recent bandit attacks by a group locally referred to as “Lakurawa.”

This tension escalated after a survivor of Friday’s bandit raid claimed to have recognized some of the attackers as local Fulani individuals.

Fueled by anger, community youths launched a retaliatory attack, leading to the deaths and multiple injuries among Fulani residents.

Kebbi State Police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, describing it as an “act of reprisal.” He added that law enforcement personnel had been dispatched to restore calm and prevent any further violence.

“We have deployed personnel to the area to calm the situation,” Abubakar said, assuring residents of ongoing efforts to restore peace in the troubled area.

Meanwhile, a delegation from Kebbi State, dispatched by Governor Nasir Idris, recently met with the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, urging immediate military intervention to eliminate the newly-emerged terrorist group, the Lukarawas, from the state.

The delegation was led by former Governor and current Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and included notable figures such as Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, APC National Organising Secretary Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, and former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Alhaji Nasiru Junju.

According to a statement by Governor Idris’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, Gen. Musa assured the delegation that the military would take the necessary steps to address the security threat posed by the Lukarawas in Kebbi State.
