Popular Nigerian singer/songwriter, Lojay has opined that people from wealthy backgrounds don’t have an edge in the music industry.

He claimed that it is more difficult for people from rich homes to be successful in the Nigerian music industry because Nigerians love shaming rich folks.

Speaking in a recent interview with City 105.1 FM, Lagos, the ‘Monalisa’ crooner said he is an exception, arguing that his talent is undeniable despite being from a rich home.

“Nigerians like rich-shaming. It’s not limited to just the music industry. Once they feel like you have an edge… It’s funny because rich kids don’t have an edge. If anything, they come into the music industry on the back foot because people feel they are already rich and don’t deserve much support,” he said.

The Interviewer asked: “Did you ever experience that?”

Lojay replied: “I’m undeniably talented. They can’t try that with me. Let them challenge me on the mic.

“Mine was an inevitable situation. I heard myself before I decided to be an artist. I didn’t deceive myself. I have never done payola. My parents didn’t use their wealth to influence people to accept my music. My rich background has not influenced my career positively. If anything, being from a rich home is a disadvantage in the music industry.”
