The Labour Party, 2023 governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has expressed displeasure while stating that ships come into Nigeria bearing goods from other countries but leave the shores of Nigeria empty.

The politician made this known on Instagram, stating that it has led to the high cost of shipping in the country and unemployment.

According to him, with the population of Nigeria, ships are not supposed to be leaving empty.

He wrote: "For years, I have sat at this table and looked at ships come in and leave the ports. Whilst the number of ships in our harbour has greatly reduced, Watching a ship leave a country populated by 200million people, EMPTY is extremely painful.

"Not only does this contribute to the high cost of shipping to Nigeria, it explains why unemployment is rising and why our currency continues to lose value.

"With our population, ships should not be leaving empty and we must do all we can to boost productivity at local and national levels.

"Consumption to production is not a catch phrase, it is our only way out."
