Serious panic ensued on Friday when a fire incident broke out at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja.

However, the incident was quickly contained before much damage was done.

The Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mohammed A. Ahmed, while confirming the incident, said it was a minor incident.

“A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry.

“The incident was a result of a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor.

“The Station Commander, Federal Fire Service, Federal Ministry of Works, Headquarters, Mr Kekai Bekebi, informed me that there was a quick response from his team, who were able to put the situation under control by deploying available fire extinguishers. He added that a successful evacuation exercise of staff was also carried out.

“The Director, Human Resource Management, Mr Aliyu Abdullahi stated that no loss of document, no injuries, and no casualties were recorded, as he further commended the staff for their general conduct while the incident lasted,”
he said.

Meanwhile, normal activities have since resumed with maintenance staff cleaning the debris and putting other items in place.
