Maiduguri Floods: Police Re-arrest Escaped Convict In Borno

The spokesperson of the command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, said the convict was arrested in Banki town following a credible tip-off.

A 24-year-old inmate, Auwalu Aminu (aka Auwalu Kirkir) who who escaped from a correctional facility during the recent flooding that submerged Maiduguri, has been rearrested by the  Borno State Police Command.

The spokesperson of the command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, said the convict was arrested in Banki town following a credible tip-off.

“Auwalu Aminu who was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy and theft at the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri unfortunately escaped due to the devastating flood incident in September 2024, which collapsed the fence of the facility,” the statement read.

"On October 16, 2024, police surveillance at Bama Area Command/Banki Divisional headquarters received a credible tip-off that Auwalu Kirkir was sighted in Banki town.

"The police patrol swiftly responded and apprehended the said Awalu Aminu.

"The convict has been profiled and will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.

“The Command remains committed in ensuring safety and urges members of the public to report any suspicious activities or information regarding fugitives to the nearest police station or through the following channels: 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293.”
