The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has also sent a protest letter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the development.

Captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong has confirmed that the Super Eagles will return to Nigeria following the treatment they received from the Libyan authorities at Al Abaq Airport.

He confirmed this on Monday afternoon.

Troost-Ekong and his teammates were stranded at the Al Abaq Airport following their arrival in the North African country on Sunday for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying matchday four encounter against the Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday.

As a result, the Super Eagles players decided they will boycott the game.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has also sent a protest letter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the development.

Providing an update on his X account, Troost-Ekong, said:

“Power of social media. Apparently our plane is being fueled as we speak and we should be leaving to Nigeria shortly. Thanks for everyone’s support!

“I REITERATE: We would NEVER treat a guest nation for a game in this way. Mistakes happen, delays happen. But never on purpose!”
