Hippopotamus Kills Emir Of Yauri's Guard In Kebbi

According to reports, 60-year-old Maigadi was attacked by the hippopotamus while he was fishing in Yauri River at Tillo Village in Yauri LGA on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at an orchard owned by the Emir of Yauri in Kebbi State, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, has been killed.

Usman was killed by a mother hippopotamus who was nursing a baby.

According to reports, 60-year-old Maigadi was attacked by the hippopotamus while he was fishing in Yauri River at Tillo Village in Yauri LGA on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

There were speculations that the animal may have perceived Maigadi as coming to harm its baby, hence the attack in self- defence.

The Chairman of Yauri Local Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu and the Kebbi State Government confirmed the incident.

"Maigadi has been buried, according Islamic rites in Yauri, after a funeral prayer,” Shu’aibu said in a statement.

On his part, the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, condoled with the Yauri Emirate and the family of the deceased.

The governor prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
