The bags of rice are being sold at a flat rate of N40,000 each in furtherance of the government’s intervention to ameliorate the prevailing food crises in Nigeria.

A video has emerged online showing federal civil servants verbally clashing as they compete to purchase a 50-kilogram bag of rice from the President Bola Tinubu-led government for N40,000.

The bags of rice are being sold at a flat rate of N40,000 each in furtherance of the government’s intervention to ameliorate the prevailing food crises in Nigeria.

Each public servant is entitled to purchase one bag, and multiple staff members can buy a bag jointly to share.

In the video shared with SaharaReporters, the workers at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation were seen on a long queue disorganised and arguing with one another while waiting to get the rice.

The government had earlier announced the sale of 50kg bags of rice at N40,000 subsidised rate per bag to interested public servants.

A circular signed by Director, Human Resource Management, Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Jaiyesimi Abimbola Aderonke had said the initiative was to ease the current food crisis affecting the country.

The circular dated 1st of August stated that all interested staff are required to complete a Google form on the OHCSF website, print and submit it to the Director HR for endorsement.

Aderonke further noted that payment for and distribution of the rice would be coordinated by designated officials, while the Chairman, Joint Union Council of the Ministry will serve as an observer during the sale to ensure transparency.
