Speaking recently at a wedding event in Benin, Uyi Cole told of how he relocated to Benin to build on his father’s musical legacy.
Uyiekpen Manners Cole, the Edo State-born drummer also known as Uyi Talent, who has played for Sunny Neji, Alariwo of Africa, and the Night Shifters band, has shared the reasons behind his sudden relocation from the Lagos music scene.
Speaking recently at a wedding event in Benin, Uyi Cole told of how he relocated to Benin to build on his father’s musical legacy.
And according to him, this relocation has paid off as he became the acting band leader of his father’s band Talents of Benin.
Reacting, the graduate of Business Administration from YabaTech said, “I started my music tutelage in my father’s band Talents of Benin despite that he did not encourage it initially.
When I got to Lagos to study, I enrolled in a music school to upgrade on my drumming skills and start a musical career afterwards.
“I played drums for many artists including Sunny Neji, Alariwo, Late Chris Hanen, until my father relocated to the US leaving his legacy behind. I also fell in love with the guitar and developed more of my guitar laying skills.
“One day, it struck me to relocate back to the vibrant Benin music scene where my father, the legendary Idemudia Cole had made a huge name with his band. Since my relocation, I have not looked back and have led a band that never rests during weekends as we are fully booked for many events like weddings and other ceremonies, because of this we are engaged in many daily rehearsals,” he said.
Continuing, he said, “I believe it is my exploits that put me into the famous Sons of Edo Music Legends group put together by respected music producer and band leader known as 24Bits with whom I have toured the world playing in the UK and many countries of EU. I hope and wish to perform in more international shows.
“I have also made a five track highlife and contemporary music album titled Osa Uruese.
Internationally, it is difficult for me to forget the Story Story concert by Sons of Edo Music Legends in 2021 which took us through UK cities like London, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and all. I can’t forget the tours through the EU to Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and a host of others organised by 24Bits International and Ehizoya Golden Entertainment.”
