Recall that Nyesom Wike and Fubara have been battling for the party’s leadership structure for some time now.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors have thrown their support behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
This is as they affirmed that he is the leader of the party in Rivers State.
Recall that Nyesom Wike had threatened to destabilize any PDP state supporting Fubara.
The PDP governors were cautioned not to venture near Rivers State by Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who threatened to set fire in each of their states if they continued to back his estranged godson.
The PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed, responded to Wike’s contentious outbursts by saying that their support for Fubara will not be rescinded.
Speaking when he received the delegation of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, Mohammed, the incumbent Governor of Bauchi State said the decision of the PDP governors was in order.
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Mohammed added that as the number one member of the PDP in Rivers state, Governor Fubara should be allowed to have control over the party’s structure.
Governor Mohammed told reporters that the NWC delegation has supported “the decision of the PDP Governors’ Forum to back Rivers State Governor Similaye Fubara as the leader of the PDP in the state.
“The decision is in order and that is how it is supposed to be. Governor Fubara is the leader of the party in the state. It is along this line that we collectively agreed for the rule of law, and the delegation gave their firm commitment and support for the position of the PDP Governors Forum in Rivers State.”
“We all know the relationship between the FCT Minister and the current Governor of Rivers state which is that of the mentor and the mentee. We are working behind the scenes to ensure they come together to work together in a manner that PDP is known for.
“Certainly, it is not something we can dictate here but we have summoned the courage and the will to ensure that the correct thing is done,” he said
