On Friday, Isaac, in a WhatsApp message, disclosed that the Police returned his 3 million.
The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has returned the sum of ₦3 million extorted from a Ghana-based Nigerian in Bayelsa State, Kelechi Isaac, by its officials.
It was reported that Kelechi Isaac was extorted ₦3 million by policemen attached to Zone 16 Command in Yenegoa as he went to the state for a friend’s traditional wedding ceremony.
Recall that the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the extortion policemen were arrested.
In a statement on September 5, Adejobi said, “The policemen involved in this case of extortion of 3m have been arrested. The men are attached to zone 16 command in Yenagoa. The command has been asked to produce the men at the FHQ. The FHQ will continue to sanitize the system and ensure justice is done in all cases brought to its notice.
“I and many senior officers feel uncomfortable the way some policemen engage in unprofessional conduct, most especially forceful extortion, and most times, and they even drop the name of the IGP in their illegal and inhumane act.
“The IGP has condemned it and reiterated that he doesn’t need any money or gift from any officer as returns or settlement. The IGP will never condone or support any unprofessional, corrupt, or illegal act. The Force will continue to uphold its values and ethics.”
On Friday, Isaac, in a WhatsApp message to Premium Times, disclosed that the Police returned his 3 million.
“They have given me the money today. (I am) just coming in from Bayelsa now. They did (the handover in cash), but after the handover I refused to touch the cash, insisting they get a PoS agent to take the cash and transfer it to me, which they did,” he stated.
