Two Dead As Car Rams Into Truck In Anambra

Eyewitnesses around the scene attributed the probable cause of the fatal crash to brake failure, saying that the two vehicles collided against each other.

Two persons have been reported dead in a fatal accident that occurred along the Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway, opposite Zone 13 Police Headquarters in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the accident occurred late on Friday and it involved an unidentified driver of a private Toyota Camry with registration number UWN531AS and another driver of a commercial IVECO Turbostar tanker with registration number ADM619XA.

Eyewitnesses around the scene attributed the probable cause of the fatal crash to brake failure, saying that the two vehicles collided against each other.

When contacted, the Acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra Sector Command, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the accident, adding that three male adults and one female adult were involved in the crash.

Onabe said, “An unidentified driver of a private Toyota Camry with registration number UWN531AS and a driver, identified as Sani Bappa, with a commercial IVECO Turbostar tanker with registration number ADM619XA were involved in a fatal road traffic crash at Zone 13 by Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway at about 19:00hrs on Friday.

“The probable cause of the fatal crash was brake failure and loss of control. According to eyewitness, the Toyota Camry failed break, lost control of the vehicle, rammed into the tanker and crashed.

“Three male adults and one female adult were involved in the crash.

“One female adult and one male adult were killed, none injured, while two male adults were rescued unhurt.

“Before the personnel of the FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje arrived the scene, they were informed by DTO Dunukofia that the killed victims had been taken to the mortuary.

“The rescue team managed traffic and ensured the two vehicles were towed away from the road.


She added that the Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, sympathised with the family of the deceased victims while warning motorists to desist from disobeying traffic rules and regulations, ensuring they service their vehicles regularly.

She urged motorists to drive to save their lives and the lives of others on the road.
