The source further explained that one of the victim’s relatives is negotiating with the bandits to see if the ransom could be reduced.
The gunmen who kidnapped Japheth Zarma Yakubu, a councillorship aspirant from the Kurmin-Kare community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have demanded a ransom of N20 million and two motorcycles for his release.
A source told Daily Post that the bandits’ leader called on Sunday 11:45am through the victim’s phone and asked the family to raise N20 million, and provide two motorcycles, for them.
The source further explained that one of the victim’s relatives is negotiating with the bandits to see if the ransom could be reduced.
“The relative of the victim came to inform us on how he had been able to talk to the bandits’ leader on the need to reduce the ransom demanded due to the economic hardship of the present situation,” the source said.
The bandits abducted the victim when he went to inspect his farm last week Thursday.
ASP Hassan Mansur, the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, could not be reached for comments on the development as of the time of filing this report.
