Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has reacted to a viral video of Nigerian women stranded in Libya.

In a video released to state the facts, Dabiri-Erewa revealed that under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, she wrote to the President, seeking a massive evacuation of Nigerians stranded in Libya.

Buhari approved and a high-powered delegation was constituted and sent to Libya to go into detention centres and evacuate Nigerians.

In the detention centres, she said she saw one of the most horrific sights of her life, including one Nigerian who had been r@ped and apparently made to undergo a forced abortion.

Dabiri said almost 10,000 Nigerians were rescued and brought home to Nigeria.

However, many of those rescued end up making attempts to go back.

To back her claims, she shared an Aljazeera documentary that revealed that as many as 45 percent of evacuated Nigerians in Libya attempt to go back after being rescued.

She added that till now, Nigerians are still being evacuated regularly by the International Organisation for Migration, with about 15 flights bringing about 3,000 migrants home between January and September this year.

Despite the evacuation efforts, Dabiri-Erewa said, "And yet, we still have our people going there."

She added that she has warned Nigerians several times about the dangers of illegal migration but they keep embarking on the dangerous journey through Libya.

She further called for information on the location of the cell where the Nigerians in the trending video are being held, so they can be rescued.

She called on Nigerians to raise awareness about human traffickers, adding that many of those who go through dangerous routes in a bid to migrate pay heavily to traffickers who facilitate their journey to these unsafe places.
