Many areas including the State-owned Broadcasting Station BRTV and Post Office, Shehu Laminu way, and Custom Area, were also severely affected by the floodwaters. The flooding in Maiduguri is reportedly attributed to a breakdown of the Alau Dam.

Many residents have been forced to abandon their homes and seek safety elsewhere.
