Popular Nigerian investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo has taken to the X platform to give his opinion on what he thinks the Tinubu-led Federal government will do to effect another hike in the pump price of petrol in the country.

In a post shared on Monday, he stated that another petrol scarcity is looming as the government will increase the price to over N1000 per litre.

He wrote;

''A step-by-step guide to increasing pump price of petrol in Nigeria (without a whimper from the people) 1.Create petrol scarcity. It’s the very foundation.

2. Get the NNPC to announce its reservoir of the commodity is enough to serve Nigerians (and neighbouring countries) for the next 1,000 months! Very important to spin a false sense of hope.

3. Create more scarcity. Let the people queue for several days just to fill their cars. No pain (for the people), no gain (for the government).

4. Watch black marketers sell at inflated prices – prices far higher than the targeted price hike – to end users who cannot join the endless queues.

5. Don’t hike the price yet; be strategic. Wait a few more weeks to be sure the people have suffered enough and have reached the just-make-the-fuel-available-at-any-price stage.

6. Now, you can increase it from N617/litre to N897/litre. Whatever!

7. It worked, so you wait another two to four months, then rinse and repeat. You heard it from me first: another petrol scarcity is looming, and after that we’ll be paying well over a thousand naira per litre.''
