The family of Taiwo Akinkunmi, who designed the national flag, has proceeded with his funeral rites after waiting for a year for a promised state funeral that did not materialize.

Akinkunmi passed away on September 4, 2023, at the age of 87.

Despite the government’s promise to honor him with a state funeral, no arrangements were made, prompting the family to take action.

The Oyo state government has stepped in to fund the burial rites, which will take place from September 4 to 6, 2024, in Ibadan.

The family remains hopeful that the government will still fulfill its promises regarding the burial plan.

The delay has resulted in significant expenses for the family, including daily morgue fees of N2,000.
