Cholera Outbreak Kills 7 In Jigawa

The outbreak has spread across multiple communities, including Malori, Maikintari, Dilmari, Kirikasamma, and parts of Baturiya village.

Seven persons have been reported dead while others were hospitalized following an outbreak of gastroenteritis in Kirikasamma and surrounding areas of Jigawa state.

Musa Abdullahi Diladige, the Primary Healthcare Coordinator of Kirikasamma Local Government Area, confirmed the outbreak and stated that the affected individuals are exhibiting symptoms such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever.

In response to the crisis, Muhammad Maisamari, the Head of the Department of Water and Sanitation, reported that a team of health personnel has been dispatched to the affected areas to provide necessary medical services. The local government council has also procured drugs and other medical supplies for immediate treatment of those affected.

Idris Gambo Abubakar, the Director of Administration and General Services, pledged the local government's commitment to providing all necessary assistance to curb the spread of the disease.

The outbreak is believed to have been triggered by recent torrential rainfall in the region, which has led to the deterioration of buildings and contamination of water sources. Residents have been advised to practice proper hygiene and avoid consuming contaminated food and water to prevent further spread of the disease.

Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are working diligently to contain the outbreak and prevent additional fatalities.
