The lawmakers urged the Canadian government to prosecute her under the relevant sections of the Criminal Code of Canada to hold her accountable for her incitement to genocide and hate speech.

The House of Representatives has written to the government of Canada, seeking the prosecution of a woman, Amaka Patience Sunnberger,  who was heard in an audio threatening to poison and kill Nigerians who are of Yoruba and Edo extraction residing in Canada.

Amaka and her fellow compatriots were having a discussion on a TikTok space when she made the threat. According to her, other tribes have marginalized Igbos enough and it is time for them to be eradicated. The woman who resides in Ontario threatened to start poisoning the meals of her Yoruba colleagues at work when she resumed work the next day.

The audio clip has since sparked an outrage from Nigerians with many calling for her arrest.

In a statement released on Wednesday, August 28, the House of Representatives said they are deeply troubled by Amaka's comments constitute a direct threat to the lives and safety of millions of Nigerians.

The House stated that her threats represent a clear violation of multiple international, Canadian, and Ontario laws and that such rhetoric is dangerous and has the potential to incite real-world violence, both in Nigeria and within the Nigerian diaspora.

The lawmakers called for an immediate and thorough investigation into Amaka's actions by Canadian law enforcement and appropriate authorities.

The lawmakers also urged the Canadian government to prosecute her under the relevant sections of the Criminal Code of Canada to hold her accountable for her incitement to genocide and hate speech.
