Rainfall, Thunderstorm Looms As NiMet Releases Three-days Forecasts

In a weather outlook published on Wednesday in Abuja, NiMet anticipated isolated thunderstorms in the morning across various areas, including Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Adamawa states.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in its weather forecast has predicted thunderstorms and rainy weather from Thursday through Saturday.

In a weather outlook published on Wednesday in Abuja, NiMet anticipated isolated thunderstorms in the morning across various areas, including Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Adamawa states.

The forecast further predicts that thunderstorms will occur later in the day in regions such as Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa states.

In the North Central region, moderate rainfall is expected in parts of Niger State during the morning hours, with similar conditions anticipated later in the day for the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue States.

For the southern region, NiMet has forecast intermittent rainfall in the afternoon and evening across Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

On Friday morning, NiMet expects thunderstorms in parts of Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, and Kano states.

The agency also predicts scattered thunderstorms in the Northern region during the afternoon and evening.

Additionally, isolated rains are forecasted for Friday morning in parts of Niger, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Plateau States.

Later in the day, moderate rains are expected in regions including Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States.

The agency anticipates cloudy conditions in the southern region during the morning, with intermittent rains expected later in the day.

“For Saturday, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Sokoto, Kaduna, Bauchi, Zamfara, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi States in the morning hours. Later in the afternoon and evening hours, widespread thunderstorms are expected across the northern region.

“Over the North Central region, moderate rains are expected during the morning hours over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Benue states,
” it said.

NiMet has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall across the majority of the North Central region in the afternoon and evening.

Additionally, intermittent rain is expected in the Southern region during the same time frame.

Residents in major cities have been advised by NiMet to steer clear of flood-prone areas, as there is a significant risk of urban flooding due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.

“Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The public should take adequate precautions and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.

,” it noted.
