The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has revealed that it has seized a chunk of styrofoam from a warehouse in the Idumota area.

LAGESC is an agency responsible for promoting a cleaner environment through enforcement and regulation of sanitation practices.

On January 21, the Lagos state government announced a ban on the usage and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state.

On June 25, the federal government placed a ban on single-use plastics in all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in a bid to address the growing plastic pollution in the country.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos state commissioner for environment and water resources, said operatives from the ministry took the styrofoam packs for incineration.

“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) discovered a styrofoam packs warehouse in Idumota,” the post reads.

“The product has been confiscated and taken to the Taskforce Office for incineration.”

On July 2, the agency said it discovered styrofoam at the Ojuwoye market in the Mushin area of the state, following a tip-off.

Wahab also announced the arrest of “16 miscreants” at terminal 3 in Oshodi.
