Two members of a notorious vehicle theft syndicate have been arrested by the Lagos state police command during a special operation in the Trade Fair area of Lagos.

The suspects, Kosoko Rafiu and Nunayo Sunayo were apprehended on Thursday, August 8, following a high-speed chase that ended with their capture at Abule Ado.

The operation began around 12:00 pm when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Trade Fair Division, who was monitoring an ongoing protest, received a tip about a red Toyota Corona speeding suspiciously towards his patrol team.

Acting swiftly, the DPO directed his personnel to conduct a stop-and-search operation. However, the suspects tried to evade arrest and fled the scene.

A pursuit ensued, and the police successfully intercepted the vehicle at Abule Ado. The suspects were taken into custody, and initial investigations revealed they are from the Republic of Benin and specialize in car theft.

Along with the stolen Toyota Corona, the police recovered a Toyota Corolla with a registration number (JJJ 741 EJ) and various charms believed to be used in their criminal activities.

The suspects are currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway to uncover more details about the syndicate’s operations.
