Legendary Juju singer, King Sunny Ade has paid tribute to late singer Onyeka Onwenu.
Recall that Onwenu passed away on July 30. The duo had been close the time Onwenu was alive.
In an interview with QEDng, Sunny Ade affectionately recalled Onwenu as more than just a friend, describing her as a cherished partner in his music career.
He said: “I can’t explain it; you know if they give you the news of the death of a loved one who has to do with your life and also your work.
“She’s not just an ordinary woman; she was someone who would sit down with you and she used to say, ‘Can I chip in some advice?’ and the advice was always correct.”
He recalled her insightful advice and contributions to his work, saying, “She used to do more than I did; when it comes to music that people do together, she used to do more. She would tap me and say, ‘Sunny, let’s take it this way,’ and it was always good.”

The Nation reported that Onwenu’s death occurred after her performance at Stella Okoli’s birthday party, where she reportedly slumped and was rushed to Reddington Hospital, but unfortunately, did not survive.
