Mogbonjubola instructed officials to seal the business premises as it had repeatedly violated environmental laws despite numerous warnings and monitoring.

The Oyo State government on Wednesday, sealed a popular business establishment located at the Barracks-bus Stop-Iwo road axis of Ibadan over failure to comply with environmental regulations in the State.

It was gathered that the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Architect Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, instructed officials to seal the business premises as it had repeatedly violated environmental laws despite numerous warnings and monitoring.

Mogbonjubola emphasized that the popular shopping complex was shut down because it consistently failed to register with an accredited waste contractor.

The Commissioner highlighted that a thorough inspection of the complex uncovered the absence of sanitary refuse drums, resulting in the regular improper disposal of waste in unauthorized locations, which goes against the existing Environmental laws of the state.

Mogbonjubola stressed that the Ministry’s actions were crucial in preventing the unnecessary spread of diseases in the area.

He urged residents, shop owners, and corporate entities to adhere to the State Environmental regulations to avoid facing penalties.

In a statement signed and made available to Naija News on Thursday, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the state government has reiterated its dedication to enhancing efforts to address flood and erosion, aiming to protect the lives and properties of its residents.

Mogbonjubola gave details of the government’s resolution during an Advocacy and Sensitization program for the 11 Local Government Councils in the Ibadan zone.

The event, organized by the Nigeria Erosion and Watersheds Management Project (OYONEWMAP), took place at Mapo Hall in Ibadan South East Local Government area.

As per a statement signed by the Project’s Communication officer, Bukola Bakare, the advocacy and sensitization program on early warning and action on flood and erosion hazards was a continuation of a similar program held in Saki, Ogbomoso, Eruwa, Oyo, and Iseyin.

The statement further mentioned that the commissioner emphasized the importance of the program in reawakening Local Government Councils, community leaders, youth leaders, and market men and women to their collective responsibilities and enhancing their capacities to create a sustainable environment that promotes development and healthy living for the people of Oyo State.
