The criminal elements that kidnapped Isa Muhammad Bawa, the District Head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, are demanding ₦1 billion for their release.

TORI reported that the district head, his son and younger brother were abducted at Kwanan Maharba while they were coming back from Sokoto last Saturday.

The Sole Administrator of Sabon Birni LGA, Garba Umar Kaba, confirmed the abduction.

Kaba expressed frustration over the continuous attacks on their communities despite efforts to enhance security.

A source who spoke with Daily Trust said that the abductors called the Secretary of the Sarkin Gobir Sabon Birni and demanded ₦1 billion ransom, and negotiation is ongoing.

The source said, “But negotiation is ongoing because there is no way such amount can be raised.”

Similarly, the member representing Sabon Birni South, Aminu Boza, confirmed that the abductors made their demands, but negotiation was still ongoing.

Boza described the locals’ situation as “terribly bad,” saying nobody was certain of his life in Sabon Birni and the neighbouring Isa LGA.

However, the Sole Administrator of Sabon Birni LGA, Kaba, said he was unaware of the development.

He said, “All I know is that, the abductors called and said the district heads, his son and brother are with them and safe.”
