The CP who briefed journalists in his office during the parade of suspected criminals and recovered exhibits, said Nigerians should not copy from the violent protest that rocked Kenya.
Abia State Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has urged Nigerians to avoid the proposed nationwide protests, asserting that the organizers have no genuine intentions for the planned demonstration.
The CP who briefed journalists in his office during the parade of suspected criminals and recovered exhibits, said Nigerians should not copy from the violent protest that rocked Kenya.
Onwuemelie noted that there are indications that the organizers of the planned nationwide protest may not be peaceful in the execution of the exercise and therefore, urged Nigerian leaders, youths, community leaders and the general public to shun the exercise.
He said that the organizers of the planned protest have not interfaced with the Police and security agencies about the purpose of the protest.
Onwuemelie recalled how the #EndSARS protest, which its organizers said was to be executed peacefully, was hijacked by hoodlums who caused destructions across various states in Nigeria.
“As a matter of fact, we should not copy from Kenya. What happened in Kenya is not a good thing and we can’t copy from Kenya.
“The rights of the citizens to protest is guaranteed under the Constitution. However, there are indications and indicators that this particular protest may not be intended to be peaceful,” the Commissioner of Police said.
The CP advised Nigerians, and Abia residents in particular, to shun the protest.
According to him, aggrieved Nigerians should approach the available proper channels in tabling their complaints.
