Two Arrested For Killing Man Over ‘Witchcraft’ Allegations In Adamawa

The suspect said he used a machete to hit Umaru four times while his brothers beat him up with sticks leading to his death.

Two men, Adamu Alhaji Bamu, 35, and Manu Alhaji Bamu, 32, have been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command over the alleged killing of a man identified as Umaru whom they accused of witchcraft.

The suspects are both from Kila village in Toungo local government area of the state.

Confirming their arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the suspects have both confessed to the crime.

Narrating the incident, Adamu said that the deceased was “not born a witch but he was inducted into it when he lost all his cattle.” He added that the deceased had earlier informed them of “his intention to buy witchcraft for the purpose of killing his father and inherit his cattle.”

He further narrated that their victim started bewitching Adamu’s children after he had failed to kill his father according to his plan.

Adamu pointed out that Umaru had murdered his daughter known as Hurera and later Mumuni, and that he retaliated by killing him and added he does not regret his action.
